Wow, everyone here can get excited about any hack folk musician or no-name half-rate guitarist, but no one cares about Phil Lesh and Bob Weir and Mickey Hart and Billy Kreutzmann?? Seems very weird to me.

Of course, if you're offended by the political hype that's certainly understandable. But were you ("you" in general, not just bluedevil) pissed off by Rainforest benefit shows? That was/i a hot political issue. How about Rex benefits? How about any of the other causes the GD got behind in the past 40 years? This is a band that very very often didn't play "just for themselves."

I don't think the rainforest is political as much as it is socio economic. I don't think either political faction wants the rain forest gone. Funny how we get all bent out of shape over what other nations do with their own resources but won't fully, safely and cleanly maximize the use of our own though. Both parties have failed to get us off foreign oil in the last 20 years.

Move the polar bears to antartica, it's ice is growing I think... there is actually a glacier in kalifornia somewhere too I believe.

Anyone heard about the sunspot activity?

Disneyland, where did the wooly mammoths go?

The killer bees?

Dinosaurs?

Dodo birds?

Dire wolves?

Jello Pudding pops?

Deloreans?

All that anti creationist darwinism and anti marxist supply and demand market stuff plays havoc on the less successful...

Amphibians, which I am bummed about actually, are on their way out though (have been for millions of years). Someone needs to tell the psychadelic frogs on my patio to stay out of the sun.

I say we do what bees would do if they could and put ourselves first.

And here are species we saved from extinction off the top of my head:

Alligators
Bald Eagles
Whales, so far anyway
We have a bunch of buildings with tiny ecosystems all over the world too for cloning potential... what are they called again, oh yeah, Zoos.

How about the species whose populations have exploded due to us?

Cockroaches
Rodents- mice, rats, squirells, hamsters
Pidegeons, seagulls, vultures (cities, garbage dumps, road kill)
Mycoplasma Gentitalium
Dust mites
Various fungi, bacteria and viruses.

If you have a problem with someone's policy, run for office with an alternate plan, don't throw ridicules and unprovable accusations of someones intentions that you don't know or cannot prove.

Now can we get back to the grok on this killer Fayker track?

That is my message, what's yours?

Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Oppression of a whole species at the hands of humans

For millions of years humans have been exploiting plantlife and it has to stop, NOW.

Young babies are ripped from their mothers womb and called fruit, what kind of anti photosyntheis slaughterhouse are we running here? At least animals can run away, but some of the innocent plants do not even know they are about to be cut down in the prime of their life for the greed of hungry hominids. When will the atrocity stop?

Millions of blades of grass are decapitated in our selfish effort to maintain a standard eugenic height restriction in our own front yards. Their mangled corpses dumped in compost piles like garbage as the last life evaporates from them in the sun. Just so we can have a nice lawn? Be still my heart.

Trees that are just minding their own business are being slaughtered in alarming numbers for pencils. PENCILS? Why do we need them? The dinosaurs died for our sins to become petrochemicals so we could make ballpoint pens and yet the killing goes on, right under the nose of the UN, amnesty international, the aclu and the international house of pancakes.

Millions of insects rise in protest of our exploitation of plant life but are murdered in a genocidal rage of chemical warfare and jackbooted stomping. The virus that causes the common cold is attacked relentlessly but somehow manages to avoid extinction because of big medicine's exploitation exceeded only by the civil rights groups who would be unemployed if they did their job. The sun has been emitting toxic levels of radiation for billions of years and the republicans do nothing. What happened to the dream?

When you walk by a farm next time, realize the innocent amuptees left half buried alive are crying out for your help.

Free them.

Free yourself.

I draw a distinction b/w playing for "causes", and certainly for Rex since members are on the Board of Directors that choose where the funds go [I know, b/c I've recently sent Wavy, Bob, and Cliff Palefsky letters for a group I work for], and stumping for a particular candidate. That said, I have no problem w/ them deciding to support Obama as they believe in him and his candidacy. The thing about being a "Deadhead" [whatever that means] is that the slogan "Deadheads for Obama" implies we all support him. I didn't, but he'll get my vote in the general election (registered Independent, BTW).

As far as getting excited about other musicians, I do get more excited about newer or other contemporary musicians that continue to create new music as opposed to these getting back together to rework tired old chestnuts when the main creative spark for the same (miss you Jerome) is not there to help breathe new life into the same.

Also, what's the demographic they are targeting? Do you get a ticket discount w/ your AARP card?
